How kinesiology works

Kinesiology (also known as Systematic or Applied Kinesiology) is a holistic therapy that aims to address imbalances and promote overall well-being by focusing on the body's energy systems. It combines principles from both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western techniques to understand and optimise the body's functioning. By using muscle testing and other diagnostic tools, kinesiology practitioners aim to identify and correct imbalances in various aspects of health, such as physical, emotional, and nutritional factors.

This Instagram video shows a short demo of how a session might look.

Principles of Kinesiology

Kinesiology is based on several key principles:
1. Muscle Testing: A cornerstone of kinesiology, muscle testing is used to assess the body's responses and indicate imbalances. By applying gentle pressure to specific muscles, a practitioner can determine if the muscle is strong or weak, indicating overall health or potential dysfunctions.
2. Meridian Energy Flow: Kinesiology recognises the meridian system, which is central to Traditional Chinese Medicine. Meridians are energy pathways that run throughout the body, connecting various organs and systems. By testing specific muscles associated with meridians, we can assess the flow of energy and identify potential blockages or imbalances.
3. Body-Mind Connection: Kinesiology acknowledges the connection between the body and mind. Emotional and psychological factors can significantly impact physical health. Through muscle testing, we can assess emotional stressors and find suitable approaches to address them, promoting a harmonious body-mind balance.

The Process of a Systematic Kinesiology Session

During a kinesiology session, we will typically follow these steps:
1. Case History: We will start by gathering information about the client's medical history, current symptoms, and lifestyle factors. This comprehensive questionnaire helps the us understand the client's unique needs and tailor the session accordingly.
2. Muscle Testing: We will use muscle testing techniques (gently pressing on a muscle) to assess various muscles and their responses. By identifying weak or strong responses, we can pinpoint imbalances and areas that require attention.
3. Finding Imbalances: Through the muscle testing process, we will identify specific imbalances within the body, such as nutritional deficiencies, energetic blockages, emotional stressors, or structural misalignments.
4. Goal Setting: Once the imbalances are identified, the practitioner and client work together to establish clear goals for the session. These goals can range from alleviating pain to improving digestion, reducing stress, or enhancing overall vitality.
5. Corrective Techniques: Using our knowledge and training, we employ a range of corrective techniques tailored to the client's needs. These can include nutritional advice, dietary changes, acupressure, lymphatic massage, emotional stress release techniques, and other modalities.
6. Reassessment: After applying the corrective techniques, we will retest the previously weak muscles to assess any changes or improvements. This step allows us to evaluate the effectiveness of the session and make any necessary adjustments if needed.
7. Follow-up and Support: Kinesiology often involves multiple sessions to achieve sustainable results. We may offer ongoing support and guidance to help the client maintain and build upon the progress made during the session. We may also recommend additional therapies or lifestyle changes to support the client's overall well-being.

Benefits of Kinesiology

Kinesiology can offer numerous benefits, including:

  • Improved overall health: By addressing imbalances and enhancing the body's energy flow, kinesiology aims to support the body's natural healing abilities and promote overall health and vitality.

  • Reduction of physical symptoms: By identifying specific imbalances that contribute to physical symptoms, kinesiology can help alleviate pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, and other physical concerns.

  • Emotional well-being: Through the identification and release of emotional stressors, kinesiology can contribute to emotional balance, reducing anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges.

  • Personal empowerment: Kinesiology empowers individuals to take an active role in their well-being by providing them with knowledge about their body's needs and offering tools for self-care.

  • Individualised approach: We recognize that each person is unique, and therefore, sessions are tailored to the individual's specific needs and goals.

Kinesiology provides a holistic approach to health and well-being by addressing imbalances in the body's energy systems. Through muscle testing and other diagnostic techniques, we aim to identify and correct imbalances, promoting overall vitality and supporting the body's natural healing abilities. With its focus on the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, and nutritional factors, kinesiology offers a comprehensive approach to achieving and maintaining optimal health.
